Poornaprajna Vidyapeetha Prathishthana

The mentor Sri Sri Vidyamanya Tirtha Swamiji and his disciple Sri Sri Pejavara Swamiji, who was hardly 25 years when they took up the challenging task of building the Vidyapeetha at the then remote Kattriguppa in South-West, Bangalore in 1956. Elders recall that Swamijis hanging jolige (satchel) on their shoulders went from house to house in the downtown and extensions of old Bangalore to collect donations from generous devotees.

With single-minded devotion towards Lord Sri Hari and an unwavering respect for sanctity of human life the Swamijis did a miracle in a short span of two to three decades.

Today, as you enter south Bangalore either from Basavangudi or from Mysore Road towards Kattriguppa, pleasant rhythmic waves of chanting Vedas, Upanishads, Shastras and verses praising the glory of lord Krishna reaches you and your heart. Over 500 ardent, devoted and intensely enthusiastic students are there to welcome you. The venue is Poornaprajna Vidyapeetha – a humble renaissance of Sanskrit education in the country situated at prime place in a 3½ acre plot in the garden city, Poornaprajna Vidyapeetha stands as a testimony for the tenacious efforts of two noble sages in providing an university atmosphere for free traditional education. At present the serene Vidyapeetha complex houses spacious research center, Sanskrit school and Collage, hostel, perhaps the biggest Sabhagraha in the city and a temple of Sri Krishna, Sri Madhwa Guru, Sri Vadiraja Teertha and Sri Raghavendra Swamy.

I like and respect the Vidyapeetha as a store house of Hindu knowledge and culture. However, Its ambience needs to be upgraded. The bathrooms and hand washing facilities are dismal. Compared to any church or a Hare Krishna Temple, it lags far behind. I appeal to the trustees to take a look around and see how it can be made beautiful with least expenditure. I as an artist and daughter of(late) Padmabushan K K Hebbar am willing to give my inputs and transform the entire area into a beautiful campus. I would like to get in touch with any of the Trustees. Looking forward to your reply. Thank you.

Dear Shri.Rekha Hebbar Rao , Very nice to hear that you have come forward to provide a beautiful look for the campus.
Before that please dont compare this institution to any church or ISkon type of other institution. I do Not to say that Hygene is not important. On a similar line, compare its scholarly potential to others, none has a better hygene (mental) than this institution. Having said this, Indian scenario in general public is poor in sanitation. Vidyapeetha is a place which was developed by purely public donations and is totally non-profit oriented. Profit is in terms of benefiting the public in terms of vedic culture and sanatana understandings. Most of the money goes to the cause of education religious functions, and such enlightenment activities. No one can match them in this respect, like knowledge in Vedanta etc.
Keeping sanitation requires some funds allocation and continuous maintenance. As you have kindly and rightly suggested to come forward pl organise a decent team of hindu workers with proper financial package, on a regular daily basis. It should not cost more than Rs. 10ooo/- per month for maintenance of 5 -10 toilet outlets and Rs. 10 Lakhs for initial building cost if any. There is shortage such service-offerings from devotees in my best guess. Pl come forward and do it as a service to Lord Krishna and there by uplift the prestige of Vidyapeetha.
    Thanks for the suggestion.
